    Description

    An American Federal coin silver three piece tea set with oval boat shaped bodies with urn finials, comprising:
    tea pot with closely grained dark wood C scroll handle, 7 1/8 " high to top of finial, 12 1/4"  long handle to spout, 5 1/4" wide
    covered sugar bowl with closely fitted lid, 6 7/8" to top of finial, 8 1/2" over handles, 4 1/2" wide
    creamer, approximately 5" high, 5 1/2" over handle, 3 1/2" wide
    monogrammed in fancy script "HEH", marked with the maker's mark I &PT for John and Peter Targee of New York, New York (sources differ slightly on working years: Kovel lists 1798-1811, Belden lists 1809-1814--stylistically pieces date around 1800 to possibly as late as 1810), a leopard head, and another mark P?, lightly hand polished and in good antique condition with small dings commensurate with age but without dents, breaks or repairs, 44 troy ounces gross weight. Includes hand written note showing previous owners and descent through family.
