Description
Presented is a fabulous American coin silver teapot, dating to circa 1854. This piece was made or retailed by Jones, Lows & Ball. The pot is beautifully decorated around the rim and foot with lush scrolling foliate designs. The lid has a separately cast and applied finial in the form of a very detailed trumpet flower, complete with leaves and stem. The handle is done in a handsome double scroll form. The pot has a plaque on one side engraved with "Captain Eben T. Sears / ship / 'Hamlet' Boston / 1854" which gives us the approximate date of the piece. The opposite side is simply engraved "Sears."The underside of the pot is stamped Jones, Lows & Ball as well as Boston and Pure Silver Coin for 900 purity silver.
This piece is in great overall condition for its age. There is a small ding near the 'Sears' monogram. There are no splits, no leaks, no cracks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The pot measures about 11 inches from handle to spout and stands about 7 inches tall. The pot has a capacity of 4 cups (32 fluid ounces/.94 liter).
The pot weighs 743 grams or 26.2 regular ounces.
