EARLY BALTIMORE COIN SILVER SPOON S. KIRK & SON 10.15 HALLMARK MAYFLOWER C1846

This
COIN SILVER
spoon is in the
MAYFLOWER
pattern dating to
1846
; an EARLY BALTIMORE pattern by S. KIRK & SON 10.15.
Before the sterling standard was adopted in the US (925/1000 pure), coins were melted down and used in the making of silverware and hollowware.
The marking 10.15 indicates the silver content was .896 pure.  The
S. KIRK & SON 10.15
hallmark consisted of coin silver and was the silver used between 1815 – 1896.
The
Mayflower
pattern
was introduced in 1846
.
This piece measures 7-1/2” in length.
This is a very early piece of COIN SILVER and would make a valuable addition to any COIN SILVER collection.
Many early silver pieces (including coin) were melted for the silver scrap value when the silver market escalated.
This spoon is in excellent estate condition with little wear to it.
Some  surface scratching commonly found on estate items and 2 of the tiniest dings in the bowl.  All in all, this is a very clean spoon not professionally cleaned!
There is a mono in the cabochon on the handle which I believe is an intertwined AL
However, with a piece as unique as this, I don’t believe a mono would do anything but enhance its beauty and desirability.
