Description
This coin silver tea pot bears the marks on the bottom for both Seymour Hoyt and Francis Cooper. Seymour Hoyt was a New York City silversmith who worked there from 1817 to 1865. I assume one of his shops was on Pearl street, and that he retailed this pot by Cooper. Francis Cooper was an important late 19th century maker of silver for the homes and churches of New York, known especially for his ecclesiastical silver. The lid has an elaborate and heavy finial, below which 8 panels alternate between chased leaves and flowers. The 8 panels continue on the chamber of the pot and feature nice floral repousse style chasing, with a cartouche on the central panel on both sides. One of these cartouches is engraved with an attractive triple monogram, ACO I think.
The pot is 9.5" tall with a width from spout to handle of 10.5" and a weight of 32.5 troy ounces.
