Description
I keep using the term rare, but try to find another like this. It was made in Warsaw, Poland c. 1800. by either an unknown maker IP, or as a friend decided byTeodor Pawlovicz in which case the maker's mark is poorly struck. It seems likely my friend is right as Pawlovicz was a famous silversmith in this period
. It is 12/16 silver or .750 fine. It might not be Judaica or used as a Kiddush cup, but it was purchased from a Jewish collector. It is seamed, but so expertly it is hard to notice when polished. It has a patina which you would expect on a piece of silver of this age. There is a very small crack on the outside of the rim at the seam. I think it might always have been there, as the silver on this beaker is so thick I don’t see how it could be stress crack. I am very strong and I can’t get the sides of this beaker to flex at all. The oval shape fits the hand perfectly, and it holds about 8 fluid oz. From a design standpoint this is probably one of the nicest pieces I have ever had, it really looks like it could have been made yesterday, very modern and therefore about 200 years before its time.
Polnisch Silber Becher Wauschau : unfortunately the only way I can send this to Germany is probably going to cost 0 so contact me before bidding.
