Description
You’re bidding on an assortment of all-different US coin sets from 1964 to 1980. The group includes both the 1964 US Mint Uncirculated Set (10 coins, Philadelphia and Denver mints) and the 1964 US Mint Proof Set (5 coins, Philadelphia mint), the last regular issue sets with silver dimes, quarters, and half dollars. They are very nice, the nickels especially lovely with light even toning (see pictures). Next are the three Special Mint Sets from 1965, 1966, and 1967, also 5 coin sets from the Philadelphia mint, and unusually clean for these generally problematic issues. Beginning with these the dime, quarter, and half are clad, no longer 90% silver. Then you get one each of every normal proof set from 1968 through 1980 inclusive, all from the San Francisco mint. The sets from 1968 through 1972 are still 5 coins. With 1973 a dollar coin was added, so the rest are sets of 6 coins. The 1979 is the more common Type I version, with the so-called “filled S” mint marks. Everything will be in the original packaging as received from the US Mint (see pictures), except (of course) all the outer packages have been opened to inspect the coins. No coins have been removed from their holders. With one exception (see below) these are all really nice sets—I made sure that none have coins with unsightly tarnish or spotting. See for example the pictures of the 1974-S, one of the better-valued sets from this run. The exception is the 1976-S set. I don’t know why, but of the ones I got that year, the pennies were all a bit problematic. In this set the one cent coin is strongly toned on both sides; it’s not hideous, it’s just an exception from everything else. The rest of the set is fine. In fact, I would bet that if you cracked some of these sets and sent them out for grading, you’d end up with some nice PR-69s or even PR-70s in the mix. PS--If you want me to send you a picture of any of the others, just let me know.
Overall, I think this grouping makes a nice collection, really cool collectibles from a half-century gone by. I will box everything carefully and send to you USPS Priority Mail, and I will pay for it to be fully insured by USPS (eBay's ShipCover insurance doesn't cover coins).
