    Description

Up for bid is an interesting New Jersey coin silver teaspoon by Richard Smith of Newark, ca 1850-53. The spoon is about 5 15/16 inches long and weighs 21 grams. The spoon has a swaged open shell drop and an upturned waisted fiddle handle with an odd “double tip”, possibly an error.  The spoon is monogrammed “JNH” on the handle front as shown.  The spoon is marked “R.SMITH / NEWARK” in an oval shape.
Condition on the spoon is fairly good.  There are just minor bowl dings and normal wear from use.  An interesting coin silver spoon!
